No, the SHWC does not provide excuse notes for missing class, tests, or school work.

I waived the Otis College Student Health Insurance. Can I still use the SHWC?
Yes! Many of the services are free for all students, but if you waived the Student Health Insurance plan, there will be a cost associated with certain services. For those services, you will be advised on the cost ahead of time and can decide to use a doctor through your insurance rather than the SHWC. Please see costs on the Menu of Services and Fee Schedule page.

What is this $210 Health Center fee that I have to pay as part of tuition?
All full time students are charged a Health Center Fee and can access many of the services provided by the SHWC. This is a separate fee from health insurance.

Now that the college campus is close, is the Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC) open?
Yes. The SHWC is still open; however, to limit the amount of exposure to everyone, we will be moving to a fully scheduled appointment model. This means that students must call ahead if they want to have either a medical or counseling appointment. SHWC will be providing mainly telehealth appointments with in person appointments per the discretion of the provider. Any health insurance questions or concerns can be emailed to studenthealth@otis.du. Please call the SHWC at 310-846-5738 to make an appointment.

I want to get tested for COVID-19, can I come to the Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC)?
The SHWC has adopted an approach to testing that is in line with the guidelines and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), American College Health Association (ACHA), and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH). The SHWC will be offering free COVID-19 testing for all currently enrolled students. The SHWC will be testing students with signs or symptoms consistent with COVID-19 as well as testing asymptomatic students with recent known or suspected exposure to the coronavirus. No walk in testing will be available. Please call the SHWC if you would like to receive COVID-19 testing. We will update our policy if any new guidance from the CDC, ACHA or the LACDPH becomes available.
